Conversations on Ethnicity, Race & Culture in Mental Health
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE DAY:
Awareness of experiences of race and ethnicity (including the the impact of racism).
Confidence to enter into conversations about ethnicity, race and cultural difference.
Knowledge of frame works of engaging with BAME communities.
A shared space to explore experiences in practice.
Build awareness of the Movement for Social Approaches in Mental Health as a means to broadening the use of social interventions and addressing ethnic health inequalities and social injustice.
THEMES:
Toxic Interaction Theory – Introduce themes that reflect some of the challenges and barriers to practitioners.
Addressing the continued issue of over-representation; as a rhetoric that yet fails to address what we do about the problems.
Opportunity for professionals to reflect on learning and practice, and to contribute to the thinking that helps us to identify the different views and perspectives on the issue.

We hope to establish a network that will commit to developing future learning forums that will benefit mental practitioners in developing confidence in their engagement with issues of mental health/illness and diversity.
