Joint Committee on Human Rights - The Government’s response to COVID-19: human rights implications

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government has announced measures which aim to protect individuals’ right to life (Article 2 ECHR) and further steps will need to be taken over the coming days, weeks and months.

BASW welcomes the report from the Joint Committee on Human Rights The Government’s response to COVID-19: human rights implications and urges the Government to give careful consideration to its recommendations.   

This report reflects the concerns raised and actions demanded by social workers and highlighted by BASW throughout the pandemic .

Social workers have a vital role in upholding human rights for children, adults and families, including to life, liberty and family life. BASW will continue to provide ethical guidance and professional support, and to advocate for the support social workers need to carry out their roles and manage the ethical dilemmas they face.
