UK & International Policy & Ethics General Meeting

BASW Members - please log in to your BASW Membership accounts before booking.  Thank you.

The UK & International Policy & Ethics General Meeting will take place on Tuesday 30th April 2024 from 1.00pm – 5.00pm, online on MS Teams.

We already have a number of routes to engagement on UK and international policy and ethical issues which include consultations, surveys, and committee involvement. We now plan to add another mechanism – an annual UK and International Policy and Ethics General Meeting (GM) – which will provide members raising policy-related motions with a forum for fuller debate and discussion. This GM will be constituted in line with our Articles of Association and motions voted on in the GM will have the same status as motions previously taken to the AGM (Annual General Meeting).

If a motion is submitted which is of a constitutional rather than policy or ethics nature, it will go through the same process as all other motions but may be voted on at the AGM instead of the new GM. There will be no difference in the process or status of motions that are voted on at either meeting. The BASW UK Chair will chair the GM.

The meeting being held online on Microsoft Teams.  Joining details will be issued shortly before the event. We very much look forward to you joining us for this important General Meeting.

Please note that there will be an opportunity to ask questions of the panel and of the proposers of motions by using the "Q&A" facility provided in Teams meetings.

Whilst not wishing to stifle expression or freedom of speech, BASW expects all those who attend to be mindful of other opinions, and to be respectful in their comments and exchanges.
