SWU Conference 2024: Trade Unionism & Activism - Links with Social Work
A FREE Training & Development Day for Social Workers and Social Work Students

at the historic Mechanics Institute in Manchester
The Social Workers Union (SWU) is thrilled to invite you to our one-day conference at the Mechanics Institute in Manchester on April 27th. Whether you are a social work student or qualified social worker, whether you are a member of SWU or not – all from the world of social work are welcome alike!
This free event includes CPD Certificate, lunch and refreshments for all attendees.

Meet our keynote speakers
Sarah Wooley – Sarah is a British trade union leader and the first ever woman to lead the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers' Union (BFAWU). Sarah is a prominent activist and grass-roots campaigner. As well as being General Secretary of BFAWU, she is also the 2023-25 President of the General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU).
Dr Neil Thompson – Neil is an independent writer and producer of online learning materials and a visiting professor at the Open University. He is also a SWU ambassador. His Academy website, with his acclaimed Manifesto for Making a Difference, is at www.NeilThompson.info.
Simon Francis – Simon has worked in communications for over 20 years, is a Campaign Collective founding member, and has led high profile integrated campaigns for a range of NGO and public sector organisations.
