SASW Community of Practice - Prevention of Homelessness - March 2022

The Scottish Government and COSLA are currently consulting on proposals for new prevention of homelessness duties. Some of the proposals will have an impact on social work and so it is vital that the views of social workers are heard in the consultation process.

SASW would like to invite you to this roundtable discussion to review some of the key proposals affecting social work. Your views will then help to shape SASW’s response to the consultation.

We will be joined by representatives from Crisis Scotland, Shelter and Clan Childlaw who are also responding to the consultation and outline the impact of the proposals from their perspectives.

The session will focus on the following proposed changes:

  • Duty of public bodies to ‘ask and act’
  • Primary responsibility for assisting homelessness 16 & 17 year olds
  • Discharge from institutions
  • Changing the right to secure permanent accommodation to accommodation that is stable and secure

More information about the consultation and the proposals for new prevention of homelessness duties can be found here: https://consult.gov.scot/housing-and-social-justice/prevention-of-homelessness-duties/
