Talk to SWU: workplace issues webinar on 7 July 2021

This is a chance for all UK social workers to talk with the Social Workers Union about workplace issues in a free online session.

Talk to SWU: work place issues webinar on Wednesday 7 July 2021 from 6-7pm. Back by popular demand!

We invite all UK social workers on Wednesday, 7 July 2021 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm to talk with the Social Workers Union (SWU) about workplace issues that they are experiencing.

This session is free to attend and the webinar is set up so that questions can be asked anonymously.

Here are some of the questions we will be addressing based on recent enquiries, and we can also address questions asked during the webinar:

  • I have a health condition that makes me exempt from wearing a face mask. My employer is insisting that I wear one when I am in the office and has said that if I don’t, they will have to offer me an alternative job. Can they do this?
  • How do I start a Tribunal claim? What are the time limits? What is ACAS Early Conciliation?
  • Whistleblowing – what sorts of statements are protected? What is the right way to go about making a protected disclosure? Can I go to the press?

Our renown Advice and Representation Service team recently recorded video messages and wrote a blog as a part of SWU’s 10th Anniversary Celebration. Click here to hear more about how the social work employment scene has changed in the past decade, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the social work workforce, how the A&R team has been remotely supporting social worker during lockdown, the continued role of the labour movement in fighting for the rights of workers, and the work we have achieved and with our members.

As a member of SWU, you are entitled to telephone advice and telephone support from the BASW / SWU Advice & Representation Service Trade Union team from your first day of membership. However, you will only be entitled to representation after the three-month qualifying period as a member of SWU. You can read here about the benefits of being a member of SWU including access to GFTU training – so remember to opt into SWU with your BASW membership!

You can register your place here for the July 7 Talk to SWU webinar. All social workers in the UK are welcome to attend this free session. Attending this session counts as 1 hour of CPD.
