The Social Workers Union (SWU) is a trade union dedicated to social work professionals and is run by social workers. In these challenging times social workers need the best protection protection possible. We believe that together, BASW and SWU provide the best protection for social workers from social workers. For this reason we strongly encourage all members to opt-in to SWU. Only a trade union can guarantee representation at a workplace hearing. As a BASW member you will receive advice and representation before the regulatory body** but if you do not opt into SWU, and are not a member of another trade union, you risk not being able to secure representation at a hearing before your employer, at which your employment could be in jeopardy. SWU supports members with swift, practical advice and representation. As a member of SWU you are also entitled to access training offered by the General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU) and will be part of the collective voice of social workers in the workplace.

If you are a member and have not yet opted-in to the SWU, please login to complete the process.***
