SWU Is Run by Social Workers, for Social Workers

Welcome to Day 2 of SWU's 10th Anniversary Celebration! Be sure to check back each day between June 12-21 for new videos and blogs that showcase our history and celebrate our future.

In this video SWU's second General Secretary Bridget Robb discusses her thoughts on splitting BASW and SWU and congratulates SWU on turning 10.

Bridget says:

"I grew up with my father having worked for a teaching union which was both [a professional association and a trade union] so for me it was never a difficulty. I always saw that to be professional meant that you had to care for the people who were in your profession.

I saw the development of the Social Workers Union as being a fundamental opportunity to rejoice that we had the legal recognition, that we had the legal powers to really represent our members well - not just with advice, but with representation wherever that took them. And I still feel that that is really critical."

In this video SWU's second General Secretary, former BASW CEO, and current Social Workers' Benevolent Trust Co-Chair Bridget Robb discusses her thoughts on splitting BASW and SWU and congratulates SWU on turning 10.
