• The BASW NI Mentoring Service is open to BASW members based in Northern Ireland. In the first instance, the service is aimed at NQSWs currently in AYE, social workers who have returned to practice after extended absence and social workers transitioning into their first management role. This will be kept under regular review.
  • The NI Service is in addition to, and independent of, normal line management and supervision structures and is not intended to replace nor infringe upon these.
  • The NI Mentoring Service is distinctive from and supplementary to the UK wide BASW Professional Support Service.
  • Mentors are experienced social workers registered as Independent members of BASW. All mentors are undertaking this role on an unpaid voluntary capacity.
  • Mentoring support will offered on a short term basis, with a maximum of x3 1-hour phone and/or online support sessions per member in any 3 month period.
  • The service will be coordinated by a named member of the BASW staff team who will process applications for mentors and mentees and will be responsible for the mentor-mentee matching process
  • Dealing with safeguarding issues has been incorporated into the Mentoring Service Guidance document
  • The service will be kept under regular review and its effectiveness will be monitored via feedback received from mentors and mentees who will be asked to complete a short online survey after each mentor-mentee support relationship has ended.
