SWU is a trade union dedicated to social work professionals and is run by social workers.

In these challenging times social workers need the best protection possible. We believe that together, BASW and SWU provide the best protection for social workers from social workers. For this reason we strongly encourage all members to opt-in to SWU.

Only a trade union can guarantee representation at a workplace hearing (subject to three month eligibility criteria***). As a BASW member you will receive advice and representation before the regulatory body* but if you do not opt into SWU, and are not a member of another trade union, you risk not being able to secure representation at a hearing before your employer, at which your employment could be in jeopardy.

SWU supports members with swift, practical advice and representation. As a member of SWU you are also entitled to access training offered by the General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU) and will be part of the collective voice of social workers in the workplace.

If you would like to be more involved with SWU you can become a workplace Union Contact promoting membership and sharing important information with colleagues.
