We want the applications for our Awards to reflect how the people you nominate have made a real impact:

The Categories

Social Worker of the Year: This social worker should demonstrate passion, dedication and a real commitment to the people they work with and for.

Student Social Worker of the Year: This is an award for the student who shone during their placement and had a significant impact, someone who through their work promises to be a fabulous social worker.

Social Work Practice Teacher of the Year: Every student social worker needs the guidance and expertise of a good Practice Teacher who is honest and fair, and who supports ethical practice in complex case scenarios in work settings.

Social Work Lecturer of the Year: The category is recognising an inspirational Social Work Lecturer who is able to deliver learning with creativity and passion, and can link theory with the practice students need to become great social workers.

Social Work Team: This is for the team that made a real impact in their area of practice, their local authority, their Integrated Partnership, but most of all who delivered in an exemplary fashion to people who need their services.

The winners of the Awards will be announced on World Social Work Day, Tuesday 21 March 2017, at a ceremony in Edinburgh, which takes the form of an evening reception starting at 5.30 pm. Those shortlisted will be invited with two personal guests and the three nominators. There will be an invited guests audience and entertainment, and we aim to finish no later than 9.30 pm.

Frequently Asked Questions

Details of nominee

Please tick the nomination category and complete as much contact information as possible on the nominee.

Do I tell the person I am nominating?

We would advise you to inform them so they are not caught off-guard if they are shortlisted.  It is also an opportunity to let them know what fantastic work they have done!

Who can nominate?

Each nominee requires three nominations

  1. From the person who is nominating, this could be a colleague, a line manager, a friend, a member of another organisation who wants to highlight this person’s contribution to excellent social work practice.
  2. From a person(s) using services – this is an important statement for the judging panel; how has the work with and for the person(s) made a difference or an improvement?
  3. From a Nominating Other e.g. work colleague, fellow student, head of department, partner organisation.  Who agrees, who can corroborate that this person should be put forward for this award? Please include all contact details in case we require further information.

A Judging Panel will meet to shortlist and select a winner in the first week in February 2017.
