PEPS - BASW Practice Educator Professional Standards (PEPS) review - 2022
This statement is to announce a current review of the PEPS
Although not an exhaustive list, the review will involve:
- Consulting with key partners who were involved in developing the refreshed PEPS
- Reviewing and collating feedback from the FAQ document
- Gathering feedback from the perspectives of people with lived experience for social work, Practice Educators, including Independent Practice Educators, HEI’s, and Students
- Communication with the PC & D working group and other relevant BASW groups, to ascertain and incorporate their feedback.
The BASW Professional Capabilities and Development Working Group (PC & D) refreshed and revised the PEPS previously in July 2020. The review took three years in total and involved a detailed process of consultation with a broad range of key stakeholders, including social work professional organisations, social work students and practitioners.
As a response to feedback from social workers, students and PEPS providers a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document was devised to capture the emerging points.
The BASW England Professional Capabilites & Development group continues to support social work practitioners by responding to individual queries about the quality assurance of practice education. The group have committed to reviewing the PEPS to ensure it reflects current practice and captures the perspectives of social workers, students, people with lived experience and social work employers. We have successfully recruited Sarah Brown from the University of Kent to undertake this review and development role on a short-term basis. The aim is for completion by September 2022.
If you would like to contribute to the review, please contact Wayne Reid (wayne.reid@basw.co.uk).
