How The College influenced the care and support White Paper

In a series of consultation events last autumn, prospective members of The College working in adults services told us they were concerned that the government was failing to give due attention to social work with adults.

So we launched a project to develop a clear case setting out the real value of social work in adults’ services with the aim of influencing the care and support White Paper published last week. What impact did the profession – speaking through The College – make?

The project led to a summit in February 2012 at which we discussed the outcomes from the strands of the project. After this summit we wrote to Paul Burstow, Minister for Care Services at the Department of Health, arguing the case for social work.

We are pleased to report to our members that the resulting White Paper, Caring for our future: Reforming care and support, contains some good news for the profession.
