Write to your MP: Put child poverty at the heart of the upcoming Budget

BASW backs the End Child Poverty campaign and encourages members to write to their local MP

The Child Poverty Action Group have launched a website on which you can write to your MP, calling on them to urge the Government to both retain the £20 weekly Universal Credit uplift and make child poverty a priority in the upcoming Budget.

BASW UK is aware of the impact that poverty has on the number of children needing statutory children’s social work intervention. The weekly uplift of £20 Universal Credit is a relatively small investment towards helping stabilise all low-income families in this time of ongoing economic crisis.

Chief Executive Dr Ruth Allen has written to the Department for Work and Pensions affirming BASW's support for the uplift, and Members of Parliament have received a briefing from BASW on the impact of poverty on children and families.
