Social Work Employment Services

Exclusive umbrella service for BASW members

A new umbrella service has launched to provide PAYE, payroll and employment services to agency social workers. The service is exclusively for BASW members.

Social Work Employment Services is the UK’s first not-for-profit umbrella company, and has been created in direct response to BASW members’ request for an umbrella organisation it can trust, which is both professional and ethical, and understands the challenges and complexity of the industry.

Working in partnership with BASW and Flexr - an online employment management platform - Social Work Employment Services will provide agency social workers with the tools they need to ensure they fully meet their HMRC obligations.

The organisation has also signed a formal recognition agreement with the Social Workers Union to provide extra assurance and protection of workers’ rights.

“Social Work Employment Services is not about making huge returns, it has been created by social workers for social workers to provide members with complete peace of mind that all taxes and national insurance has been paid,” says Kate O’Regan, a director at Social Work Employment Services.

“There are multiple umbrella organisations providing payroll and employment services, but as off-payroll regulations change and the needs of agency social workers change, not all umbrella companies provide tailored, up-to-date employment advice or provide the best returns.

“Comparatively we are one of the lowest umbrellas available and our partnership with BASW adds another layer of security for our members.

“Working with BASW, members will be able to access a range of insurances as well as courses, events and networking events. Members will also have access to advice and representation services, and we are working closely with Social Workers Union through a formal recognition agreement to provide extra assurance and protection of workers’ rights,” added Kate.
