Webinar: The Educational Progress of Looked After Children in England

Webinar: The Educational Progress of Looked After Children in England
Presented by Dr Nikki Luke, Professor Judy Sebba & Professor David Berridge

Please join us online Tuesday 15 December 2015 at 4pm. No advance registration required. Open to all. This invitation is extended to anyone interested in the work of schools and services for looked after children.

We will present selected findings from the recently published study on the educational progress of children in care in English secondary schools and invite discussion on possible interpretations and implications for policy and practice. The research addresses the relationships between young people’s experiences in the care system and their educational progress. Outcomes for children with different characteristics and the relationships between outcomes and placement type and stability, school stability and length of time in care were explored. These statistical analyses were complemented by in-depth qualitative interviews with young people in six local authorities and with adults significant in their educational careers, to explore what might be done to improve the progress of secondary school pupils in care.

Overview report and three technical reports available on the Rees Centre website:
