BASW joins rally against austerity
BASW members will be showing their support for the TUC’s rally against austerity this Saturday, 20 October.
Thousands of people from across the country are expected to join the Future that Works march from central London to Hyde Park, with similar protests taking place at other locations in the UK, including Belfast, Cardiff and Glasgow.
BASW’s trade union arm, the Social Workers Union, pledged its support for the rally.
“SWU fully supports the TUC march and would encourage members across the country to take part in London or a protest near to them.
“The day will send a message loud and clear to the Government that its current economic policies are not working and do not have the support of the nation.”
BASW members taking part in the London rally should meet outside Blackfriars Underground Station between noon and 12.15pm on Saturday.
Marchers are advised to dress appropriately – good walking shoes, waterproofs, but not umbrellas.
The rally will culminate in a range of speakers who will address the crowd at Hyde Park and is expected to be finished by 4pm.
