SASW Community of Practice: Mental Health Officers

Thursday 19th January 2023 - 2pm - 4pm

Join us for our dedicated Community of Practice (CoP) for Mental Health Officers (MHOs) in Scotland on 19th January 2023 from 2pm until 4pm.  The CoP is designed to allow a reflective space for MHOs to consider a dedicated theme and the potential impacts on practice.

The CoP will be presented by Dr Maggie Whyte, Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist, Department of Clinical Neuropsychology, NHS Grampian.  Maggie teaches on the MHO programme at RGU and recently contributed to the Scottish Mental Health Law Review’s Capacity and Support for Decision-Making Sub-group.

This session will cover neuropsychological influences on capacity and approaches to assessment and also a range of possible treatments / ways of facilitating decision-making.  It will give an insight into how psychologists approach assessing capacity and supported decision-making with adults who appear to lack or have fluctuating capacity.   It is designed to stimulate discussion and reflection on MHO practice in this area and also act as springboard to what might be needed for future training and education.

The event will be held virtually on MS Teams and a link will be sent prior to the event.
