SASW Community of Practice: Mental Health Officers

Thursday 27th October 2022 - 2.30pm - 4.30pm

The fourth dedicated Community of Practice (CoP) for Mental Health Officers (MHOs) in Scotland will be focused on Forensic Mental Health Practice. The CoP will be presented by Zoë Sharpe, who currently works in NHS Ayrshire and Arran Forensic Services, across the low secure inpatient ward, forensic rehabilitation ward and also the Community Forensic Mental Health Team.

Zoë Sharpe qualified as an MHO in 2015 whilst working in East Ayrshire Mental Health Services and developed a keen interest to work within Forensic Mental Health. Zoë has recently taken up a newly created post within Forensic Services and is keen to develop this role by engaging with others and sharing her experiences.

The session will focus specifically upon the recommendations that have been put forward from the Independent Review of Mental Health Services (Barron, 2021). Given the impact that these potential changes will have on practice, the discussion will explore what this could mean for MHOs and for those who use forensic services, their families and carers. It will also touch on the definition of Forensic Mental Health and also the key roles and aspects of MHO work within this area.

These CoPs are designed to be dedicated reflective places for practicing MHOs across Scotland to network with peers and engage in reflective discussion on prearranged topics to support professional learning and development.  There will be a CoP for MHOs planned on a quarterly basis and each CoP will have a dedicated theme.  The CoPs will attract 3 hours CPD.

Please book below and come and join us.  You will receive an agenda and some reading prior to the session, which will be used to inform the discussion.  The session will take place on MS Teams.
