The BASW England Ipswich & Suffolk Branch & are proud to present their contribution to the 80-20 Campaign series of events, sponsored by the Centre for Social Work Practice.
In this session, Jane and Tom will be speaking about Relationship Based Practice in Children’s Social Work as part of the BASW England 80-20 Campaign. This event will look at Children’s Social Work practice with potential outcomes for all Social Workers.
About the Speaker
Dr Jane Herd is founder and CEO of Orb8 a Social Enterpise focused on improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of traumatised, hard to reach and marginalised children and young people. It provides a range of specialist services based on neurodevelopmental, trauma and attachment theories that include service development, consultation, training, bespoke courses and direct work.
Tom Stibbs has been a social worker for over 15 years and has been the Principal Social Worker for Children and Families for Brighton & Hove City Council for 3 ½ years. Tom leads on the implementation and evaluation of relationship-based social work practice in Brighton & Hove. Relationship-based practice has been introduced as a whole system change which included a service redesign, a new supervision model and ongoing work to embed cultural change. The new model is based on the idea that if social workers feel safe and supported they can build relationships with families and use these relationships to affect change.

About the 80-20 Campaign
We are campaigning to reverse the current trend which sees children and families social workers spending just 20 per cent of their time in direct contact with families. Our survey has revealed that BASW England members feel more of their time should be spent building relationships with families and with less of their time on administrative and process driven activities.
