Community of Practice

Thursday 15th December, 12 - 1.30pm

Join us for our Community of Practice (CoP) for social workers on 15th December 2022 from 12.30pm until 1.30pm.  The CoP is designed to allow a reflective space for social workers to consider a dedicated theme and the potential impacts on practice and wellbeing.

The topic for this session is:
When David Bowie created Ziggy Stardust: Reconceptualising workplace learning for social workers

Our guest speaker for this session is Dr Gillian Ferguson, Lecturer in Social Work at the Open University. Dr Ferguson will summarise findings from recent research offering new insights into how social workers learn in the workplace. Dr Ferguson will introduce a web model for reconceptualising workplace learning for social workers, woven from connecting themes: journey of the self; navigating landscape and place; navigating tasks; learning through others; learning through the body; and learning by chance.

There will be opportunity to reflect on the findings and what they mean for you and your understanding of professional learning.

The event will be held virtually on MS Teams and a link will be sent prior to the event.
