BASW England West Yorkshire Branch and Coventry and Warwickshire Branch present a joint event focussing on Food Poverty and Food Insecurity.

Speakers include: Dominic Watters #FoodIsCare Campaign, Hugh McNeill, Coventry Foodbank, Graham Parker from Bradford Foodbank . The event is open to students, social workers, BASW members and non-members.

6.30-6.40pm- Welcome and Introductions from Branch Chairs Jack Skinner and Diana Harris

6.40-7.10pm- First Speaker: Dominic Watters heading up the #FoodisCare campaign in partnership with SWU have recently completed a ground-breaking survey with social workers around food insecurity. The report has recently been published, the headlines will be shared on the night along with other developments and opportunities to get involved in campaign activity.

7.10- 7.15pm Comfort break

7.15-7.40pm – Second Speaker: Hugh McNeill, Pathfinders Project Manager, Coventry Foodbank will talk about the development of the Foodbank, the support they provide to the local community, the challenges they are facing and the multi-agency approach to supporting people in Coventry who are in need.

7.40-7.45pm Comfort break

7.45-8.15pm- Third speaker: Graham Parker who is the chairperson for a Foodbank in Bradford. Graham will highlight issues linked to food poverty such as fuel poverty and how views about foodbanks have changed over the past few decades. Graham will also explore the need for foodbanks and the vital role they play in supporting communities, particularly for those seeking refuge or asylum in this country.

8.15-8.30pm- Additional Q&A session and opportunity for peer reflection and action planning
