BASW England Webinar: Homes not Hospitals campaign - launch of key documents
Join us for the launch of a suite of resources for social workers which have been developed to promote the Homes not Hospitals campaign
The BASW England Homes not Hospitals campaign was created in response to issues with the current system that sees too many autistic people and people with learning disabilities detained in hospital Assessment and Treatment Units (ATUs) or restrictive care arrangements and seclusion units.
There is an over-reliance on in-patient care and people can spend too long in hospital before appropriate support is available for them to be discharged causing distress to the individual and to their families.
The aim of the Homes not Hospitals campaign is to promote preventative approaches in terms of commissioning, human rights-based practice, the role of social work and legal literacy to reduce the risk of situations from reaching the point of hospital admission. Where the person is already subject to this type of care and treatment regime, they are supported to leave as quickly as possible to a place they want to live with the right support in place.
