Speakers

Dominic aka @SingleDadSW is a social work student who lives in a deprived council estate block while raising his daughter. He is passionate about discussing the impact of poverty and describes the marginalisation experienced by people living in poverty as the ‘true’ social distance. Dominic has been at the forefront of bringing discussions about food insecurity into the social work arena. At the BASW 50th festival Dominic argued that achieving food security for service users’ needs to be an integral part of the future of social work. He has gone on to write powerful articles about his lived experience of poverty and he has been noted as an activist by leading social work professional bodies who have used his definition of food insecurity to challenge policy. While still a student Dominic continues to speak about his experiences in the hope they bring about change.
