BASW England Greater Manchester Branch Event
The REIGN Collective: Power not Pity - exploring best practice for working with people with lived experience of abuse and best ways to work collaboratively with 'experts by experience.'
The REIGN Collective have been training social workers, on child sexual exploitation from their own lived experiences for over four years. From classrooms to conferences they’ve worked to raise the voices of survivors and ensure professionals are trained not just to identify CSE, but how to really understand and support children subjected to exploitation.
In this event, REIGN will explore what it means to be a survivor and contribute as an ‘expert by experience’ to professional development in social work. The session will have opportunities to ask questions and will cover:
- Advice and best practice for working with people with lived experience of abuse
- Re-living trauma professionally and ways to self-safeguard.
- How to talk about sexual violence and be comfortable in the discomfort.
- What victims and survivors need from social workers.
