BASW England Black & Ethnic Minority Professionals Symposium (BPS) event – 'Enter the BPS'

BASW England launched the Black & Ethnic Minority Professionals Symposium (BPS) in August 2020 . The group is co-ordinated by Wayne Reid, Professional Officer and is a BASW member forum with a nominated member Chair Pauline Sergeant and Vice Chair Cherelle Francis .

The BPS provides an opportunity for members to share their social work knowledge, expertise and skills in addition to providing a safe space for members to discuss experiences with each other. The BPS also provides an opportunity for members to share their skills  and knowledge to support other Black and Ethnic Minority social workers at different stages of their career pathway.

In December 2020, the BPS hosted a successful event (‘Smashing the Glass Ceiling’) in partnership with Perrett Laver to support aspiring Black and Ethnic Minority professionals with employment skills and provide careers guidance.  The group have developed a close and formidable bond.

‘Enter the BPS’ is an informal event showcasing the diverse knowledge, skills and expertise of members from the BPS.  You will hear about their social work backgrounds, their reasons for joining the group, their achievements and other insights.  The event is aimed at aspiring Black and Ethnic Minority social work professionals, students and colleagues from allied professions.  We are delighted the event will be compered by Claudia Crawley.

The event title: ‘Enter the BPS’ is a nod to the first Wu-Tang Clan album
