This webinar organised by the Social Work History Network will hear perspectives from different experiences about how far social work has disappeared from adult social services (social care). It will explore the vision for social work in the 1968 Seebohm and later reports and what has changed in social work and local authorities since, the likely nature & prospects of future change, and how changes might be influenced to assure a positive future for Social Work.
Five brisk presentations will be followed by an online discussion to enable good interaction with attendees’ own perspectives.
The five social worker background speakers will be:
Brian Parrott - SWHN Steering Group member, former Director of Social Services and then DASS, and until recently an ADASS Trustee;
Ruth Allen - Chief Executive BASW;
Rob Mitchell - Principal Social Worker in Bradford, a national PSW leader & author;
Tricia Pereira - previously a London borough PSW & now Director of Operations, Skills for Care;
Clenton Farquharson MBE - Director of Disabled People User-led Organisation in Birmingham and Chair of TLAP (Think Local Act Personal) nationally) will give an overview from the perspective of an expert by experience.
The discussion which follows will be facilitated by David Brindle, until recently the Guardian’s Public Services Editor.
