Part of BASW's Taught Skills Development Programme

Course Outline:

One of the most important principles of all types of safeguarding is that it is everyone’s responsibility, and for leaders and managers in organisations it is vital that this principle is modelling, cascaded and quality assured if both effective strategic and operational delivery of safeguarding is to be realised.

The Intercollegiate Guidelines (published August 2018 by the Royal College of Nursing on behalf of a number of professional colleges and associations including BASW) set out the competencies and standards of practice for health care staff, from front-line support workers to executive directors and board members, and this programme is aligned to the level 4 Named Professionals competency requirements.

All providers of NHS funded health services should identify a named professional for safeguarding within its structure. Named professionals have a key role in promoting good professional practice within their organisation, providing advice and expertise for fellow professionals, and ensuring safeguarding training is in place. This one-day programme, delivered as two half-day interactive virtual sessions, is designed for Named Professionals working in provider services, commissioning services, and Safeguarding Leads and Board Members.

Learning Methods:

A combination of learning methods will be used throughout the day, including lecture, workshop, and group work. Interactive and experiential methods, group and pair work, and interactive activities in the form of quizzes, polls, case studies, and reflection dilemmas will be used, to inform participant learning and support application to practice.
