An exciting opportunity has arisen for three BASW Northern Ireland member positions on the Northern Ireland National Standing Committee (NSC), including a student member. We welcome applications from all parts of the sector including social workers in direct practice, specialist fields, managers, academics, practice educators, and those working in diverse settings. To maintain the diversity of our committee we would particularly welcome applications from social workers with experience of older people’s services, learning disability and those working in the 3rd sector.

The committee meets four times a year and this also counts as continual professional development to help maintain your registration.   However due to Covid restrictions all meetings are virtual at this stage.

This past year has been both very busy and very successful and BASW NI worked hard to engage and represent its membership. We have adjusted to working in lockdown and found new ways to engage with members via our online forums.  We now have 7 Communities of practice: Children’s, Adults, Older People, Learning Disability, Mental Health, NQSW and Independents. We have continued to campaign on welfare reform, anti-poverty and improved working conditions for social workers and better services for those who need social work support.

If you think that you could add to the team that makes a real difference to social work in Northern Ireland, then we want to hear from you.   We are looking for members who are passionate about social work, committed to high standards of practice, able to demonstrate leadership skills and interested in shaping and influencing the future work of the BASW Northern Ireland Committee.

Those interested in being involved in the work of the BASW NI Committee are invited to apply by noon on Wednesday 11th November 2020 and nominations will be posted on the Northern Ireland home page of the BASW website with a closing date of electronic voting by Tuesday 15th December.

Candidates are initially elected for 2 years.

Travel expenses will be paid.
