Jo is a Social Worker - Better at Home Team, Wigan Council and was nominated by Megan Hardy.
Jo has been a social worker in the Better at Home team for approximately 2 years now, having joined the team as an ASYE worker. Her enthusiasm and commitment to her role has been consistent , and she has frequently gone the extra mile to support people on their discharge from hospital. Joanne has helped several people to return to their own homes rather than entering care homes by using a combination of assistive technology, frequent carer visits, utilising voluntary organisations and using the principles of the Wigan Deal; she is not afraid to challenge conventional wisdom and use resources creatively to meet needs.
During the pandemic she has experimented with many different approaches to communication to enable people to participate in decisions made about their support, using a variety of methods, including using virtual methods, carer support, family help, and written and pictorial means. Jo approaches her work with a positive attitude and always has a smile on her face. She is always willing to support other colleagues, new staff and other ASYE social workers. Her enthusiasm is infectious and has been completely unaffected by pandemic. She has just completed her BIA training and I am sure she will approach this role with her usual commitment.
