Evaluation of the Social Pedagogy Pilot Programme in residential children’s homes

Given the considerable challenges we face in responding to the problems of abused, neglected and highly disadvantaged young people living away from home in public care, we should responsibly test out and carefully evaluate new approaches. There is comparatively little ‘R&D’ in social work and children’s services compared with, say, health and other areas of the economy. An established, coherent, higher status, professional approach to children’s services is evident in several other European countries in the form of pedagogy/social pedagogy.
