Each year, over one million women suffer domestic abuse1, over 300,000 women are sexually assaulted and 60,000 women are raped. Shocking statistics. But these crimes are often hidden away behind closed doors, with the victim suffering in silence. Fewer than one in four people who suffer abuse at the hands of their partner and only around one in ten women who experience serious sexual assault report it to the police. That means we have to do more to help victims feel confident about reporting these crimes and it means we all must do much more to prevent violence against women and girls happening in the first place.
