Learning lessons from the past to create a safer, better future

Within this booklet you will find everything you need to know about us and how to get up and running with your Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) activity.

Holocaust Memorial Day Trust is a charity which works to raise awareness of Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD). We promote and encourage participation in HMD by providing free resources, running free workshops across the UK and producing the annual theme for HMD. We believe that HMD is relevant to everyone, regardless of age, race or background. It’s a time for communities to join together to remember the past in order to make their neighbourhoods safer and stronger.

On Holocaust Memorial Day we share the memory of the millions who have been murdered in the Holocaust, under Nazi persecution and subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur in order to challenge hatred and persecution in the UK today. HMD has taken place in the UK since 2001 and HMDT was established in May 2005. During our existence the number of activities held for HMD has grown by over 400%. Our external evaluation following HMD 2012 showed that 96% of respondents would rate their activity a success, mirroring the findings of HMD 2011.
