May 2011 - BASW England Consultation Response to Equality act 2010: Banning Age Discrimination in services, public functions and associations
Within health and social care age is widely used as a criteria for determining eligibility and level of services. This is not “official” policy, but is widely used as a rationing device. BASW strongly supports the view that there should be no exceptions for health and social care provision in relation to age.
