The Northern Ireland first minister Peter Robinson attended the World Social Work Day event and received personally NIASW’s pre-election manifesto, which outlines the risks of making cuts to already struggling social work services and calls for the protection of the role and functions of registered social workers. NIASW manager
Carolyn Ewart presented A Social Work Manifesto for Northern Ireland to the Democratic Unionist Party leader. The four page document says ‘any cuts to already under pressure services would place vulnerable children and adults at a much greater risk of harm. Indeed these services must receive priority for better support and development’.
