IFSW announces appointment of new secretary-general

Dr Rory G. Truell has been appointed to the post of secretary-general at The International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) in a move roundly welcomed by BASW.

Dr Truell spent the last four years as chief executive of The New Zealand Social Services Training Organisation before assuming his new post on 1 July.

Announcing the appointment, IFSW president Gary Bailey said: “We have found an incredible leader and someone who will play an integral role in elevating the awareness and recognition of professional social work worldwide.” BASW chief executive Hilton Dawson commented: “Dr Truell’s appointment offers a renewed challenge to all of us to ensure that he has the backing and we have the vision and the strength to raise the profile and the standing of our profession at the United Nations and across the world.”

IFSW is a federation of national member organisations operating in 90 countries and representing more than 745,000 social workers worldwide.
