Reviewing the international definition of social work
The current International Definition of Social Work is now under review. It has served us well as we have used it to influence politicians and policy makers about the actual role of social workers in helping people change their lives.
What we have learnt from increasing international contacts and exchange, however, is that other social work interventions, such as community social work, are seen as effective and especially important in various parts of the world, yet are not so well covered by the current definition.
Early in 2013 we will be consulting with members as part of the debate on how we can better explain to the world about the work social workers undertake across the planet.
