What is self harm?
Self-harm or self-injury is a way some people use for dealing with difficult or painful feelings that they find difficult to talk about. It is a lot more common than people realise – partly because it is often so hidden and is not something people will talk about. It has been estimated that up to one in ten young people will harm themselves at some point, and it is thought to be more common amongst teenage girls.
Who Cares? Scotland
Who Cares? Scotland works with and for Scotland’s children and young people in care. Our work is varied. We lobby local and national government, and we offer information and advice to people working in the care system. We campaign for positive change. But above all, our key offering is in working directly with young people to help them speak out about what they need – and have a right to. Our independent advocacy service guarantees young people in care support and understanding.
