Early Education

Early Education believes every child deserves the best possible start in life and support to fulfil their potential. A child’s experience in the early years has a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its own right, and provides the foundation for children to make the most of their own abilities and talents as they grow up.

Education for All

The Education for All (EFA) movement is a global commitment aimed at ensuring quality basic education for all children, youths and adults. The movement was launched at the World Conference on Education for All in 1990 by 155 countries and international organisations, including UNESCO. It was here that participants pledged to universalise primary education and substantially reduce illiteracy by the end of the decade. With many countries still a long way from reaching this goal, the international community’s commitment to achieving EFA was upheld when they met again at the World Education Forum in Dakar, Senegal, in 2000. They identified six key education goals which aim to meet the learning needs of all children, youths and adults by the year 2015. UNESCO currently leads global efforts to achieve these goals.
