The Education for All (EFA) movement is a global commitment aimed at ensuring quality basic education for all children, youths and adults. It was here that participants pledged to universalise primary education and substantially reduce illiteracy by the end of the decade. With many countries still a long way from reaching this goal, the international community’s commitment to achieving EFA was upheld when they met again at the World Education Forum in Dakar, Senegal, in 2000. They identified six key education goals which aim to meet the learning needs of all children, youths and adults by the year 2015. UNESCO currently leads global efforts to achieve these goals.
