Independent Social Work

‘Independent social work is now a very much acknowledged part of the social work “landscape”.

‘Many would regard starting a new independent social work business in a recession very ill advised. Indeed, it may not be an ideal environment but there are still many opportunities. Experienced practitioners who find themselves redundant when their former employer is forced to make budget cutbacks or someone wishing to change course during a period of austerity in public services may seriously consider it.

‘For those trying to steer their existing business through turbulent and changing times, the ever-present anxiety of whether the phone will ring and whether there is sufficient income to pay the outgoings each month remains the overriding concern.’
