Helping Clients Reduce Risky Sexual Behaviour
Saturday 22nd June 2013
The British Psychological Society, 30-34 Tabernacle Street, Finsbury, London, EC2A 4UE
Do you feel confident assessing your clients’ sexual behaviour or helping them change these behaviours in the context of therapy? Often this can be challenging, especially when risky sexual behaviour is associated with drinking, drug use, or relationship problems.
In this day-long workshop, you will learn evidence-based strategies for working with clients regarding their sexuality: (1) assessing sexual orientation and identity, (2) evaluating the HIV/STI risk associated with their behaviours, and (3) helping them to increase their motivation and skills to change their sexual behaviour to be congruent with their goals and values.
David Pantalone, PhD, is a clinical health psychologist in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, where he serves as an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the University of
Massachusetts—Boston, and a behavioural scientist at The Fenway Institute. Dr. Pantalone has authored/co-authored over 30 scientific articles and given more than 60 scientific presentations in the areas of HIV/STI prevention and treatment. He is an expert in cognitive behaviour therapy and in Information-Motivation-behaviour (IMB) approaches to addressing sexual risk behaviour. Dr. Pantalone collaborates with public health researchers on research projects, funded by the U.S. government, to reduce risky sexual behaviour and related alcohol and drug use, and improve interpersonal relationships. Dr. Pantalone teaches undergraduate and graduate students, provides clinical supervision to clinicians at all levels of training, and trains community providers.
