Charity embarks on pioneering neuroscience research to revolutionise care for vulnerable children

Leading children's charity Kids Company is to research the impact of loving care on children who have been abused and neglected. In an ambitious research project the charity is to team up with leading British and international childhood development clinicians to evidence the impact of loving care and attachment, and the lack of it, on children's brain development. The charity believes the research will lead to a paradigm shift in the way we support vulnerable children.

From Ruth Cartwright at the Pavilion Event on 28th April 2010

BASW England's Joint Country Manager Ruth Cartwright recently addressed the impact of care management and personalisation on adult social work in a speech titled Social Workers in Adult Services - an Endangered Species? Ms Cartwright was speaking at an event in London on 28 April, Dignity and Choice in End of Life Care: the role of social workers, organised by Pavilion.

Social Workers in Adult Services - an endangered species?

Social Work with Adults discussion on My BASW:

Really worried about what's happening to social workers in adult services with news of redundancies despite warm words from DH and ADASS in joint statement on the future of social work in adult social services in England (March 2010) and the advent of personlisation which was supposed to be an opportunity to reclaim social work in this field. I gave a presentation on this to a conference on 28th April and will see if this can go on the BASW website. Two things members could do to help BASW fight our corner - let us know what it is you contribute to adult services that others could not do and give me some topics and data on redundancies or just what life is like out there for when I meet the new President of ADASS soon. Of course, I do have a handle on this stuff through meeting members, but real life stories and evidence can be very powerful and add strength to what we are saying on your behalf. Hope to hear from you through this thread or on r.cartwright@basw.co.uk
