Nominations are now open for members to put themselves forward to serve on BASW’s England Committee. There are currently five vacancies available.
BASW’s England Committee is the National Standing Committee for BASW England. Here BASW members work with officers to take forward the England Development Plan. The Committee can communicate and exchange information with the wider membership through links to reference groups covering Children and Families, Criminal Justice, Social Work with Adults, Learning and Development and Mental Health, and through the England Newsletter, e-bulletins, PSW, and BASW events. There are also links with special interest groups and BASW Branches. The convenors of the five Reference Groups sit on the England Committee and the meetings are also attended by BASW England manager and BASW staff to give information and help implement decisions.
The Committee meets (usually face to face but occasionally by teleconference) six times a year and work is carried out between meetings along with BASW staff. This may include being involved with development of BASW policy, guidance for members and position statements responses to media requests, consultations, representing BASW on internal and external working groups and at conferences. Work with the Committee counts as continual professional development to help maintain your registration.
There is a BASW England Annual Meeting and annual elections to the Committee are held electronically before this meeting. People are elected for two years and can be re-elected after that and a Chair and Deputy Chair are chosen by the Committee from among their number. These posts are currently held by Joan Franklin and Tricia Hayes. There are currently 5 places available on the Committee.
Applications to stand for membership of the Committee must be with Sharon Hodgson at england@basw.co.uk by Sunday 4th March 2012 and electronic elections will take place between Wednesday 7th March and Sunday 18th March. If you would like more information please contact Ruth Cartwright on r.cartwright@basw.co.uk or 07760 386417.
