BASW are very pleased to announce the launch of a new member benefit for NQSWs in England. The idea for the scheme came from hearing about the very difficult situation of many NQSWs who cannot find suitable employment. At a seminar for NQSWs held in December 2011 participants very much welcomed the idea of receiving mentoring. Within the short period that the scheme has been running there have been notable
successes of participants succeeding in getting social work jobs. Mentors are all volunteers.
Quote from mentee, Abbie:
“Just a quick email to tell you that I was offered the post of Community Children’s Social Worker. Thank you for your help and support over the past few weeks – it was a real benefit having someone to turn to at such a bleak time”.
Quote from volunteer Mentor, Bernie:
“ Anything I can do to help as I know the difficulties that NQSW currently face in getting a job without experience and being in the typical chicken and egg situation”.
