The British Association of Social Workers (BASW) is the Professional Association for Social Workers in the UK.  Throughout its 42 year history, BASW has offered both advice and representation to its members with workplace related issues.

In September 2011 BASW launched the Social Workers Union (SWU). SWU is a listed and independently certificate union operating alongside the BASW Advice & Representation service.  We believe SWU to be the only UK trade union for social workers which is staffed by qualified, registered social workers.

BASW and SWU Advice is provided through our duty system and where applicable by an allocated Trade Union Official.  All of our TU Officials are qualified, registered and experienced social workers with specialist employment law knowledge and expertise. Our Service is unrivalled within the social work profession. We provide swift, practical advice or prolonged support for both internal processes and conduct hearings with regulatory bodies and Tribunals.

Membership is growing daily and we have created a new permanent full time post for a Trade Union Official based in the north of England.  The role is working from home so applicants must be based in Northern England
